The
Bells and Ringers of St. Mary's, Ross-on-Wye
In
July 2001, the bell ringers of St.
Mary's, Ross-on-Wye kindly allowed me twice to climb the tower
and photograph the views from the spire. The first time was early
on a Sunday morning and the second time was during their Tuesday
evening practise. Whilst there on the Tuesday, I took the opportunity
to photograph both the bells and ringers. I am aware that the correct
term is 'campanologists' but when I used that word in conversation,
I was politely corrected - with tongue in cheek, 'We are bell ringers.'
Unfortunately the photographs I took were quite fuzzy due to my
camera being worn out having taken over 2,000 photographs of Ross
with it but I have since been back up the spire, in October 2002,
to retake the views. If
you would like to listen to the sound of the bells, please click
