Local People - Kevin Sale - 'The Camberwell Chronicles'

I have known Kevin Sale for a relatively short period of time. We met up at Ross-on-Wye Market whilst I was working at my recently formed Wyenot Shop and he at his excellent Samosa Shop. (My day would be sadly lacking without two of his lamb samosas for breakfast.) Whilst discussing life, the universe and what makes a good curry et cetera, it came to light that we had quite a few things in common, one of which was that we both enjoy writing. Kevin gave me the web address at which he is showing his current work, 'The Camberwell Chronicles'. On reading it, I was totally amazed! His work really needs to be read by as many people as possible! Kevin explained that he was having difficulty with his web site getting found however - amongst the billion or so other web sites featuring the search word 'Camberwell'. To this end, I have added this page to Wyenot.com in the hope that his book will begin to get some of the publicity that it rightly deserves, and that he will eventually find a publisher. I feel quite justified in adding the page to a site about Ross-on-Wye as Kevin has lived in Ross for many years now. What follows is an extract from Kevin's own web site. Please visit his site and enjoy . . .

The Camberwell Chronicles - a trilogy of spiritual adventure novels for the modern day mystic. Lying somewhere between the cosmic void of Buddhism, and the chaotic madness of the modern world, the Camberwell of these novels takes on a mythical quality. A modern myth, in which the ordinariness of a small, unfashionable London suburb is swept away, and Camberwell is infused with magick and mysticism. In this version of Camberwell, if something can happen, it probably already has. This is indeed a special place: It has a history, and it is about to acquire a destiny.
The Camberwell Chronicles is the first book in the “Camberwell” trilogy. It is set in the large squatting community which flourished there during the nineteen-eighties, and can be loosely described as “science-faction”. Many of the book’s characters and the events that befall them actually are real. These books were born out of my own time in the squats of Brunswick Park. Therefore, there is an inevitable auto-biographical element to the stories. The events that I witnessed, coupled with my involvement with the human consciousness movement, eastern philosophy and ritual magick, has led to these imaginings I call The Camberwell Chronicles.
Along the way we find answers to some of the questions that have puzzled mankind for centuries: where do the amazing crystal skulls come from, and who really made them? What was the real purpose of the giant stupa complex at Borobudur in Java? What is buried beneath the ancient floor of Chartres Cathedral? What happens when your mind goes blank? Finally, and most importantly ? who painted the damn streets!!?
Central to all the action is Otto’s induction into the world of mysticism and altered consciousness. Simon and his Circle of mystics contend that the human species is still at a primitive stage in its development. Simon’s constant message to Otto is that he must first become fully human, before he can be more than human . . . Please click here to continue.
