King Arthur's
Cave is the most well known of the limestone caves located at the
Doward, near Symonds Yat and is an extremely interesting place to
visit. It can only be reached on foot, however the walk is not difficult.
To find the
caves take the Symonds Yat West exit from the A40 and follow the
signs for the Doward, park in the lay-by just before you reach the
Doward Park camp site and follow the track down into the woods,
passing the old quarry (pictured below).

SHORT
FILM: KING ARTHUR'S CAVE
King
Arthur's Cave was occupied by man during the upper Palaeolithic
and possibly prior to that, though evidence of earlier occupation
has been removed by ice flows. Flint tools and the bones of woolly
mammoth have been found within and around the caves. These days,
the caverns are occupied by bats, spiders and other small furry
animals.
The
short film (left) was mostly shot in May 2009 but also includes
photographs taken over the years. It shows King Arthur's Cave and
some of the surrounding area of the Doward, near Symonds Yat and
the Seven Sisters Rocks.
The view
of the river in the film is shot from the Seven Sisters nearby.
