Brookend
Street
The
two images below were taken on 8 December 2000 when, following
two months of unseasonable heavy rain, the Millpond overflowed
flooding much of the town centre. This
was the first time that Brookend Street had flooded badly
in over 20 years.

The

on the same day.
The Fire Brigade were out over night, pumping water from
people's homes and attempting to divert the flood water
into the River.

The
area surrounding River Wye floods a little more frequently
than the town centre. The photographs below were taken
at the end of October 2000. The
first is a view of the river from the Prospect, by St
Mary's Church. The second was taken from a bridge, a short
distance west of the town.
