Girls
Under 14 and Ladies Carnival Sunday Football Tournaments
In an invitation girl's football match, a chairman's select
eleven took on 'Lad's Club,'
Hereford at the Sports Centre on Sunday as part of Carnival
2004. Both teams were under 14 and played eleven a side on a
full pitch. This was used as a warm up for the Herefordshire
Girls Football league.
Ross ran
out winners in a closely fought match which was played in a
very friendly spirit. Trophies were presented to both teams
by Wayne Powell of GMB and were donated by Ross Town ladies.

Town 3 Bredon 0
To
coincide with Ross carnival, Ross town ladies played against Bredon
ladies for a shield donated by Ross junior girls. Ross kicked
off and won an early free kick, Jade Powell took it and the keeper
saved. Sarah Smith nipped through Bredon’s defence, her shot rebounded
off the keeper and fell to Powell, again the keeper saved it.
Hayley Layton made a break and whipped a cross in and Bredon cleared
the danger then counter attacked, this time Ross successfully
defended as Abi Williams made the clearance. Powell made another
break and was foiled again by the keeper.
Sally Oliver
was next to try a shot yet again a save by the keeper. Powell
made a sharp turn on the edge of the box and hit towards the
top corner and the keeper nudged it over the bar for a corner.
Emma Walker won a free kick 25 yards out but Powell struck it
over the bar. Walker also put one over the bar after a goalmouth
scramble. Ross broke the deadlock on 40 minutes when Emily Colwell
broke through and slotted past the keeper. Donna Hyndman tried
a long shot that the keeper caught as the half time whistle
went. Bredon started well forcing a couple of clearances from
Louise Page. Ross recovered, Hyndman sent Colwell on her way
but she put her shot over the bar. Ross went 2 - 0 up when Layton
set up Powell for a close range shot. A few minutes later Smith
added a third. Bredon break forward and win a corner then get
a free kick just outside the box from which they hit the crossbar.
Alana Feakins pushed forward and tried a shot that was safely
gathered. Heidi Venables had her free kick saved and sent over
a couple of crosses that nobody connected with and also fired
a long shot wide just before the final whistle.
