Ross in Bloom

Ref: DSC_1369 Ref: DSC_1469			Ross-in-Bloom held a two day sale in High Street, Ross last week, to raise much needed funds for the coming years' projects. Extra fund raising has been deemed necessary by the proposed stoppage of grants to "in Bloom" organizations by Herefordshire Council. An extra £600 minimum will have to be found each year to enable RiB to continue with their projects around the town. Lyn Tomlinson, Vice Chairman who ran the Table Sale would like to thank everyone who contributed to the event - whether it be by donating goods, selling goods or (most important) buying the goods. Over £214 was raised over the two days, a good start to funds for the future "This sale was organized on the spur of the moment when Gill and Mervyn offered us the shop. I would like to offer them the sincere thanks of the group for their generosity and help. Unfortunately we were unable to do any advertising for the event, but we are still delighted with the amount raised. Just think how much we could have done with more time. With a bit of luck we may be able to do something like this again next year with a bit more time to spare. Perhaps readers would like to save us their unwanted Christmas Gifts ready for another. All contributions will be gratefully received". Ideas on different fund raising methods or offers of help are welcome by the new fund raising officer, Jenny Holmes. Above: The band of Hereford Salvation Army play Christmas carols in and around Ross-on-Wye Market on Saturday, 4th December reviving personal memories of my childhood in Barking, Essex. The Salvation Army were very kind to my father's family when my grandfather died of lung cancer at the age of forty two, leaving behind my grandmother with no income and five children to support and bring up. Up until the age of fifteen I played cornet for Barking YP Band and, although I turned out to be the 'black sheep' who became extremely rebellious and left, I still hold fond memories of good times and good friends from that era.
