Following
on from the 'Archive Ross-on-Wye' article in last week's edition
of 'Wyenot News,'
to the left and below are a few more old photographs, previously
unpublished on this web site.
Left is
the sundial on Wilton Bridge. I have no idea whether this photograph
was taken during the original installation or during later renovation
work, though I would imagine that it was the former. Below is
a recent photograph, which I took myself, coincidentally exactly
a year ago to the day, on 17th January 2004. It seems to me
that the sundial has rotated on its axis at some point during
the period between the two photographs. It is therefore probably
not a good idea to rely on the timepiece as an accurate chronometer.
The only
information I have about the football team below, right is from
some handwriting on the back of the original; 'Presenting the
Nicholls Cup to H. Toomer on 1st November 1923'.
The only
information I have about the aircraft photographs is a name,
'M. Samlet'.
I can only
guess that the bottom two photographs were taken in the old
brewery building in Station / Henry Street (now Somerfield).
The name, 'Baston' was written on the back of the originals.
