In January,
at the Hereford Schools Cross-country Championships a number
of pupils from John Kyrle High School did very well. Kelsey
Smith was first, Vanessa Brann second, Ellie Dunford fifth and
Alice Ancrum ninth in the Junior Girls race. Jordon Simmons
came fourth for the Junior Boys' and Jack Ancrum fourth for
the Senior Boys.
These pupils
were all selected to represent the district in the Hereford
and Worcester Cross-country Championships at Bromsgrove High
School, on Saturday, 5th February.
Vanessa
Brann and Kelsey Smith qualified at Bromsgrove for the English
Schools Championship. Vanessa came second and Kelsey Smith fourth,
making them both automatic qualifiers. There
were sixty runners in total, so they both did very well indeed.
Pictured
left is Vanessa, who was twelve on 19th August and is probably
one one the youngest qualifiers for a long time.
Vanessa
was victor ludorum for year seven girls, she has already broken
both the 1,500 and 800 metre school records and has retained
the under thirteen county championship for cross country running
for two years. She also won the John Thomas Memorial Shield
for outstanding achievement in junior sports.
Congratulations
to all of the runners. This is a great achievement for John
Kyrle High School, and for the town of Ross on Wye.
