Carnival
Chairman Mel Hodges had a very early start to his day
on Saturday 6th August, around 5:30 am I believe! He was
up at the crack of dawn to start the setting up of the
Carnival field at the Caroline Symonds Gardens and to
direct the many visiting stall holders to their respective
pitches. The scene unfolded into a very colourful affair,
with cake stalls and tombola, burger bars, Bar bars, an
ice cream van, a variety of side shows and a display of
vintage vehicles.
The
judging of the Carnival floats took place at the Ashburton
Industrial Estate at 12:15, the results of which are published
below the photographs. Apparently the judges, from Park
End had a very difficult job deciding the winners. The
entrants in some categories were so good the judges had
to award a joint third place and a joint second place.
The
streets were crowded as the procession of floats made
it's way through Ross-on-Wye town centre and down to the
field. There were pirates and Pinocchio, scary people
and the toothpaste fairy, Lord Nelson and Ross Sea Cadets,
a matador and Flamenco dancer, Ross Phoenix Majorettes,
and some very eye catching belly dancers amongst many
others who took part in this event.
Selecting
photographs of the day to put on this page was very difficult
as all of the entries into the procession were good and
colourful, so I have just used seven here but there are
a further 185, including all presentations, which can
be viewed as a slide show in the photo
gallery.
