Over
one hundred "Friends of PGL" gathered by the River Wye
on Saturday August 20th to remember Peter Lawrence, the
company's founder, who died a year ago. Staff and company
contacts past and present attended and the guests of honour
were Peter's widow, Lucile, and his sister, Jennifer.
Many
participated in a memorial canoe trip from Hole-in-the-Wall
to Ross, which was part of the original holiday route
that Peter first used in the 1950s. It was a lovely afternoon
and there were lots of laughs, pranks and enjoyment en
route. Great Britain Under
23 canoeist, Andrew Hadfield, joined in, having first
experienced canoeing at PGL with his primary school.
The
day ended with a pig roast in glorious evening sunshine
on the river bank at Ross Rowing Club. There were reminiscences
galore, a toast to Peter's memory and the announcement
that donations had raised £2,000 to help children from
families on income support to enjoy PGL adventures in
the future.
