International
Gospel Artist, Nia - now based in Gorsley, is currently
touring the UK raising awareness and funds for The Smiles
Foundations projects in Romania, of which she is cofounder.
The Tileagd School Choir from Romania will be joining
her on this tour for the twenty eight dates. Until two
years ago these children had not sat in a classroom and
the majority could not read or write until the Smiles
Foundation opened up a school for a gypsy village in Tileagd,
just outside of Oradea. The community there had had no
access to education for fifty years. The youngsters are
joining NIA on The Smiles Foundation Roadshow to thank
those who have supported the school and to help raise
funds for the much needed larger school so that others
can enjoy the opportunities that they are now getting.
On the Roadshow the youngsters will be singing in three
languages, Romny, Romanian & English.
On
Saturday 8th October the Smiles Foundation Roadshow will
be in Ross on Wye at The Baptist Church, supported by
a number of area churches. The start time is 7.30 pm and
tickets are £4 in advance (£5 on the door), or a £12 family
ticket (£15 on the door). These are available locally
from 01989-566966
The
evening will be multimedia, with video footage of the
youngsters in Romania and of the various projects that
Smiles is involved in. Also on the night, there will be
opportunity to enter a prize draw to win an all expenses
paid Mission Trip to Romania - the draw will take place
at the end of the Tour, with the trips later this year,
or in 2006.
