Friends
from Ross and Bishop's School in Hereford visited Kampala
last August to help with the construction of the New Rock
Foundation School. On Saturday, 19th November, people
from Ross enjoyed a range of African style foods (including
chappattis and ground nut sauce) at the Ryfield Centre,
followed by a powerpoint presentation of both the work
completed on the school and the 'tourist' bit of the group's
visit.
Visitors
from Uganda attended the evening also, sharing information
about work they are involved with - prostitutes in Kampala
and children of the itinerant fishing communities on the
Ssese Islands in Lake Victoria.
In
the informal atmosphere people were free to ask questions
and other members of the visiting party, who were able
to pass on their experiences as first time visitors to
Africa.
Sue
Gasston, party member told Wyenot News, 'We will
continue to raise money to finish building the school
- to put another storey on the new block. This is our
project for 2006. We are also looking to replacing all
the very rough wood tables and benches with new desk/bench
sets, which cost about £30 for 3 pupils. We are also proposing
to take another party to Uganda in 2007.'
If
you are interested in helping in any way, Sue Gasston
would be pleased to hear from you on 01989 564251.
