Dedication of the Crib at Hereford Cathedral
|
|
Herefordshire
Junior Singing Club, of which several members come from
Ross-on-Wye, performed at the blessing of the crib in
Hereford Cathedral on Monday 5th December.
Formed
in September 2003 and now into its third year, the club
has over thirty regular members, boys and girls aged between
seven and fourteen from schools around the county. Members
are not auditioned and many have been involved since the
club's inception. The club meet on Saturday mornings during
term time in central Hereford and give public performances
each term.
The
autumn term focuses on Christmas music and this year,
for the second year running, sang at the Service of Dedication
of the Crib and will be singing at the Carols for Shoppers
service on 17th at 12:00 noon, which will also be held
in Hereford Cathedral. Some senior members will also be
singing at the National Trust property, Berrington Hall
during the month. The
spring term music revolves round music from Shows; recent
performances include Mary Poppins, The Wizard of Oz and
The Sound of Music. Next term the young singers will be
working at Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The summer term sees
the club's participation in a large-scale concert in the
Cathedral, in which some two hundred children from local
primary schools take part.
Those
interested in joining, or parents on behalf of interested
children are encouraged to contact the club's administrator
on 01432 269403.

Dear Sir,
Ross-in-Bloom
in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce would like to
thank everyone for participating in the Advent Market last
week. In the past we have organized Summer Markets with
Crafts and entertainment. This was the first venture of
its kind for the Festive Season.
It
was a great success and we would not have been able to do
it without help. Normally we would not mention names for
fear of leaving out important people but we feel there should
be some mention of just a few individuals. We are very grateful
for the support given to the event by Gordon and Margaret
Lucas not just during the day but on the lead up to it.
They have given ourselves and the traders tremendous support
and we thank them most sincerely.
To
those individuals who braved the exposed areas (inside and
out) of the Market Place to set up their stalls - we thank
you for your support. It is understood you did very well
for trade.
To
the shops who bravely ventured into opening at a different
time to usual. We hope to all had a successful day of trading.
Thank you for your support. To the Town Band who provided
very cheerful carols and other music, thank you very much.
We hope to see you again at another event.
Thanks
to Iris Price for supplying traditional costumes to the
stallholders. To Admiral Lord Nelson (John Price) who made
an appearance during the afternoon. We understand both of
these individuals also helped with the band collection boxes.
Thanks also must go to the staff of the Heritage Centre
who not only did sterling work on the day but had been taking
bookings and answering queries since October. Finally to
all of those who visited the Market to look, to listen and/or
to buy, thank you for supporting us again.
Seasonal
Greetings to Everyone
Lyn
Tomlinson, Chairman Ross-in-Bloom
Jo Ashman, President Ross Chamber of Trade.
