White Friday

Friday's weather came as a bit of surprise. I woke up expecting to see rain but the eerie silence made me look out of the window before getting out of bed. Outside my window, the streets were totally white and it was snowing heavily.

In town, the streets had been gritted and were clear, as can be seen from the top photo, taken from the Heritage Centre window on Friday morning (Thanks Mary for freezing while I took it). The snow continued falling for the whole day and produced the deepest snow locally since 1982 and the most snow my oldest son, Matt has seen in his entire life. Matt is 21 years old.

1996 produced some snow locally but not as much as on Friday. Friday on the other hand was nothing compared to 1982, and that in turn was just a light shower compared to 1962/3. I was living with my parents in Essex at that time, where blizzard conditions began on the afternoon of Boxing Day and continued through to April.
