'Beyond
the Concrete' Exhibition Coming to Ross Library
|
|
|
Robert
Kirbyson will be holding an exhibition of his works 'Beyond
the Concrete,' at Ross library from July 17th to July 31st
2007.
This exhibition of acrylics takes inspiration from the forms
and patterns that creation develops around us. Rob also
studies the way in which other cultures have embraced this
force in their environment.
'In
the developed world, we have largely lost touch with our
environment and seem indifferent to its destruction in the
name of progress. Not only our own environment but other
people’s environments also. In countries we consider undeveloped
and a resource for the West, the environment is still central
to their cultures and this is highly evident in their art,
which generally exists for cathartic reasons rather than
purely commercial reasons.'
The
image on the left is an example of some of the work that
will be included in the exhibition.
Later in the year, October 2nd to 22nd, the Library will
be host to the Rogue Gene Collective of which Rob is both
a member and the founder.

Happy
25th Birthday Ave
|

Happy
birthday greetings go to Ave Pennenone, who celebrated her
25th birthday on Friday 30th March.
Ave could not celebrate fully on the day itself as she and
fiancé Christo Kotze were working. However, she arranged
with friends to celebrate on the following evening and asked
everybody to come in fancy dress.
When
Tina and I arrived at the Horse and Jockey to have a drink
with the birthday girl, we were greeted by Zorro, Cruella
de Ville, a rather raunchy looking WPC, an officer and a
gentleman, Sam(antha) the bin man, Christo the Clown and
many others. The friends left a little later to celebrate
at various other venues in the town and apparently a good
time was had by all.
Ave
made her own costume and I think you will all agree, she
did a brilliant job and makes a really pretty picture.
Pictured
left are Ave and Christo at the start of the evening.
In
the photograph below are Christo and Ave with some of their
friends in their fantastic costumes.
The
bottom photograph shows Christo and Ave the next morning,
just before starting work. Surprisingly, they didn't look
too hung over.
