The Drop in Sea Fishing club had a very successful start to the summer fishing season last weekend. Members of the club sailed from Plymouth aboard 'Size Matters' on Friday the 6th April 2007. Sean, the Skipper of 'Size Matters' was kept very busy for most of the day filleting Ling and Pollock and everybody enjoyed a fantastic day's fishing with temperatures up in the 20s.

The biggest catch of the day, a 24lb Ling was made by Ian Richards. All of the crew caught on average between 7 and 5 fish except Clive!!! Poor Clive only caught one Pollock all day! Better luck next time.

The club are currently looking for sponsors and Daz would be delighted to hear from anybody who would be interested in sponsoring them. Daz can be contacted by emailing: Daztaxis@aol.com. They are also hoping to build up a list of 'stand by' fisherman to fill trips at short notice.

The next fishing trip will be taking place on Monday, 30th April 2007 at Cardigan Bay, fishing for Tope. Photographs from this adventure trip should be available for viewing on the following edition of 'Wyenot News'.

Ellis Rutsch is fast becoming well known as an accomplished fisherman. On Saturday 31st March he caught a huge Rainbow Trout , whilst fishing from a boat at Lyn Gwyn, near Rhayader. The trout weighed in at twelve pounds and one ounce, constituting a specimen and Ellis is really proud of his catch. This is the second time in just a few months that Ellis has caught a big fish. He caught a rather large salmon in the Wye back in January.

Although fishing is his favourite sport, Ellis enjoys most outdoor activities, such as football, tennis, rugby, cricket, golf, and country pursuits and regularly plays table tennis at the White Lion on Wednesdays.

Ross-on-Wye Weather Station is located by the tennis courts and bowling green at 'Crossfields' and is one of the important stations around the country which regularly sends data to the Meteorological Office. This is why Ross-on-Wye is sometimes mentioned on the BBC weather reports. It is currently still a manually monitored station and readings are taken twice per day by husband and wife team, June and Rex Swallow.
