Golf:
Preston 398s v. Ross A40s
|
|
The newly formed A40 Golf Society held it's inaugural golfing
event at Monmouth Golf Club on Friday and Saturday.
Having
moved to Ross-On-Wye from Preston, Lancashire in September
2005, A40 Captain, Andy Waldis had the idea for a 'Ryder
Cup' style challenge against his former golfing mates from
the 398 Golf Society.
Following
several months of planning, the two teams of ten pitched
themselves against each other over two fantastic days of
matchplay golf, comprising nine hole Fourballs and nine
hole Foursomes competitions on Friday, and eighteen holes
Singles on the Saturday.
The
final result was a victory for the A40's, winning by 12.5
points to 7.5.
Between
the golf matches, a North v South skittles competition was
held at The
Barrel in Brookend Street on Friday evening. This resulted
in a victory for the visitors from Preston. At the pre-match
awards presentation, Andy said, 'I always said that success
would be for everyone to enjoy the event, and for us to
be invited up to Preston in 2008 for a rematch. Winning
the competition was good but the fact that everyone had
a great time was what I really wanted to achieve'.
Commenting
on the event, 398 President John Morris said, 'The 398 Golf
Society has been running for over twenty years and this
is definitely one of the best events we've been to'.
Initial
plans are now underway for next years event.

Weather Station Readings
|
|
Ross-on-Wye Weather Station is located by the tennis courts
and bowling green at 'Crossfields' and is one of the important
stations around the country which regularly sends data to
the Meteorological Office. This is why Ross-on-Wye is sometimes
mentioned on the BBC weather reports. It is currently still
a manually monitored station and readings are taken twice
per day by husband and wife team, June
and Rex Swallow.
