Following
my coverage of the flood of two weeks ago, I thought readers
might like a reminder of how bad the flood situation was
on 8th December 2000.
Although
I have shown some of this footage before (and, in fact over
300 people downloaded that clip from the 'Wyenot News' server
within the past two weeks) this is virtually the whole uncut
footage I took on that day, with the real sound, rather
than a background of music. I have shortened just a few
scenes to fit the film into 10 minutes but other than that,
there is no editing at all.
The
quality is not brilliant as it is pre digital and I used
analogue 8mm (Super 8) tape of the period, which was transferred
to video tape and has lost quality over time. (Although
my original film is much higher quality than this highly
compressed broadcast version.)
The
film was made during the final days of the period during
which I was still building 'Wyenot.com' - 20 days before
the site was launched officially, on 1st January 2001. It
is one of two bits of film I recorded but did not use at
the time. The other was the 2000 Carnival, which I shall
run on another occasion soon, as carnival day is fast approaching.
The
function room at the Prince of Wales was absolutely packed
on Saturday evening with friends helping Hannah Lerego to
celebrate her thirtieth birthday with a toga party and what
a great success it was. The birthday girl looked beautiful
in her 'Medusa' outfit and was very hospitable, inviting
me to take whatever photographs I wanted. Hannah happily
posed for the first photograph in front of a lovely mural
that her friend, Fay Winchester had painted for her and
all of the guests, many of which we know personally, looked
absolutely fabulous, as you will see from the photographs
below.
