Just
Colin at The Plough . . .
|
|
It
was a busy day for me on Saturday, the whole day until late
at night being taken up with photography at one place or
another. This meant that my tour of what was going on about
town involved just a quick stop at each venue this week.
First
stop was at the Plough, Overross Street, where 'Just Colin'
was entertaining with country music. Tina sang a couple
of songs whilst we were there, with Colin backing with his
guitar. Everybody there seemed to be happy and enjoying
the evening.
Next
stop was the Prince of Wales to see Banshee. Banshee are
an Irish Ceilidh trio and again, I was unable to stay long
but those present seemed to be enjoying themselves very
much and from later feedback, I gather it was a great evening
all round. I would have stayed longer but there is no rest
for the wicked! I had been rather delayed in arriving, due
to spending longer in the Toga Party next door than I had
anticipated, and had arranged to meet Friends, Paul and
Ali at Ozzie's birthday party.
This
coming Saturday, there will be more music at the Prince.
Not sure who is playing yet as it is still being arranged
but I'll try to call in and take a photo or two. This coming
weekend is an even busier one for me. Tina's mum and dad
are holding a 50th Anniversary party in Bromsgrove. I have
to go there, followed by covering the last bit of the first
night of Ross Country and Western Festival. On the Saturday,
I have the wedding of a friend of a friend to photograph
(I don't usually do weddings) Merton House Fete, the Country
Festival again and the wedding reception.
Between
the reception, which is also at the Prince and covering
the evening of the Country Festival, I'll try to catch a
quick shot of whoever is playing at the Prince. As I said,
'No rest for the wicked'! Hope to see you at one of the
events.

Ross
Shop Mobility Opens
|
|
We've
talked about it, you've read about it, now the new Ross
Shop Mobility is finally open, the scheme having commenced
operating on Tuesday, 3rd July.
The
project is operating from the Scout and Guide hut in Red
Meadow Car Park, next to the Ross-on-Wye Swimming pool.
The service opens from Tuesdays to Saturdays between 10
am and 4 PM and is a free service for people that need it,
though donations are welcome.
The
only other things asked are that you fill out a registration
form, take a short driving test and enjoy the shop mobility
experience. This
will mean a more productive summer for some local people
and visitors to Ross with limited mobility.
New
EnviroAbility staff, Ivan and Victoria will operate the
scheme and Beverly Humble, a local Occupational Therapist
kindly helped design the driving test.
Financial
support for the project is being provided by Advantage West
Midlands, Market Towns Initiative, Eveson Charitable Trust
and Herefordshire Council. Partners in Ross Shop Mobility
project include: Age Concern Ross & District Community First
- Access to Services Partnership; The Ross Lions; Herefordshire
Council; Ross Partnership; Herefordshire Voluntary Action;
Ross Town Council and WRVS Transport Links.
Please call Martin and Robyn at EnviroAbility on 01989 760919
to find out how you book a scooter, or just turn-up to talk
to Ivan and Victoria.

Shopmobility
scooters are now available from the Scout Hut. |

Weather Station Readings
|
|
Ross-on-Wye Weather Station is located by the tennis courts
and bowling green at 'Crossfields' and is one of the important
stations around the country which regularly sends data to
the Meteorological Office. This is why Ross-on-Wye is sometimes
mentioned on the BBC weather reports. It is currently still
a manually monitored station and readings are taken twice
per day by husband and wife team, June
and Rex Swallow.
