Sun and Smiles at Llangarron Fête

Aided by the sunny weather, a record breaking crowd of 700 people descended on Bernithan Court on Saturday, 7th July for a good, 'old-fashioned' afternoon of family entertainment. Fittingly, the Fête was opened by actor and comedian Ben Miller, accompanied by his wife, Belinda and year-old daughter, who then proceeded to mix with the crowd and enjoy the programme of events.

Wizard Wonky's Magic Show and the Falconry Display proved to be particularly popular, along with the parade of vintage tractors. On the music front, Ross Town Band livened up the occasion with their repertoire of brass band music followed by accomplished performances by the Whitchurch School Performance Choir and the Llangrove School Players.

A magnificent £4,500 was raised - nearly 10% up on 2006 - to help maintain and develop vital community facilities, in particular Llangarron Church.

Just sometimes . . .

I received a phone call this morning. It got me out of bed after a terrible night's sleep. Just lately, I suffer badly with insomnia because my mind is over active at bed time.

'Hello. Is that Wyenot News'?
'Yes,' I replied, rubbing the sandman's delivery from my eyes.
'I would like to order the photo you took.'

'No problem. Which one?'
'The one on your web site.'
'Which one?'
'The one in Ross-on-Wye.'
'Which one of the 10,000 in Ross-on-Wye on my web site is it?'
'The one with a castle and a river.'

I guess you can see where this is going.

Aaaggghhh! Just sometimes, running Wyenot News does my brain in.

The Mike Arnison Photo Gallery

Thank you to Mike Arnison, who has been off on his travels and sent in this great photo from the West coast of Scotland of an abandoned trawler. Mike said, 'This is probably a topical image in view of the Ross floods'.
