Why? It was a sunny afternoon and we could have all sat round in gondolas listening - like at the Pink Floyd concert in Venice.

Seriously though. It would seem that 'Bands in the Park' is doomed this summer. The bandstand made a good diving platform though for some. I did not actually see the diving going on but I heard about it and guessed who it would be. You know what? I have since found out that I was right. I won't name them but it was two boys who live in the area and who have the same kind of reputation my friend, Glynn and I had for our antics when we were that age.

(If anything went off with a loud bang, started smoking or emitting a pungent odour strong enough to evacuate a whole block of flats in Barking, back in the '60s, Alan and Glynn were always the prime suspects - and for good reason. Glynn is now the President of 'Pitney Bowes' in the Far East and I do this - so there is hope for the future.)

Ross Town Carnival Week begins on Saturday, 28th July and many events will be going on throughout the week leading up to Carnival Day.

Carnival Day itself is due to take place on Saturday 4th August, with a bigger than ever procession of floats and lots of stalls and side-shows for the people of Ross and its visitors to enjoy. However, due to the current flooding situation, Carnival Chairman, Mr. Mel Hodges has been informed by Herefordshire Council that their usual site, the Caroline Symonds Gardens cannot be used until further notice.

Mel told Wyenot News: 'Contingency plans are being discussed should the need arise for a different site to be used. The committee is holding a meeting on Wednesday to discuss possible options and a meeting with Herefordshire Council will take place on Monday. We are determined that the Carnival will go ahead, so please tell your readers to keep watching Wyenot News for further carnival updates.'
