Bands in the Park was able to take place this week, following two weeks of 'fair weather' cancellations and Pillowell Silver Band provided the entertainment for a very happy audience.

I was unable to stop, as usual, due to another commitment in Whitchurch but what I heard was really good. I thought the solo cornet player was brilliant (I used to be a solo cornet player with Barking YP Band, so I look for these things).

Take a look at the video and you will see what I mean. Unfortunately, I did not catch her real solo, in the picture as I arrived half way through but she had a good part to play in the Andrew Lloyd-Webber piece I did record.

Information is sought in relation to a burglary that occurred at some time between 6:00 am on Monday, 9th July and 9:30 am on Friday, 13th July.

A door lock was broken to gain access to office premises in Old Ross Road, Whitchurch and two full sets of golf clubs were stolen, including a brand new set of Tom Watson wedges.

All golf clubs were graphite shafted in a blue / grey colour.

One other unusual item stolen was a large bronze coloured Buddha, which was approximately 18 inches tall and 1½ feet wide.

There was plenty of Summer Holiday fun and busy hands ('chaos') today, Tuesday at Ross Heritage Centre, where lots of local children made model castles and forts.

Below the children can be seen working on their masterpieces in the capable hands of Heritage Assistant, Sue Parker.

Ross-on-Wye Weather Station is located by the tennis courts and bowling green at 'Crossfields' and is one of the important stations around the country which regularly sends data to the Meteorological Office. This is why Ross-on-Wye is sometimes mentioned on the BBC weather reports. It is currently still a manually monitored station and readings are taken twice per day by husband and wife team, June and Rex Swallow.
