Saturday saw the first 'Jamstand' concert at the riverside
band stand, the highlight of which was Totem Pole's performance
of Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon'.
Amplified
music at the bandstand is currently a sore point with one
or two residents located close to the building but it is
this, as well as the other events which Ross needs to keep
the tourists visiting the town. A special licence had to
be arranged so that 'Jamstand' could take place, the arranging
of which took time, allowing only two weeks advertising.
That two weeks advertising however produced quite an audience,
with people coming and going throughout the day and a good
many turning up specially for the finalé.
Having
loved the music of Pink Floyd since my school days and their
first single, 'Arnold Layne', I spent the whole afternoon
and evening at 'Jamstand', which was arranged by local musician,
Jack Baldus and filmed the whole show, from beginning to
end.
You
can watch the whole 'Dark Side' performance in three parts
below the top photo and I will run some of the other film
in next week's edition of 'Wyenot News'. The film was made
on stage, rather than out in the audience and as a result,
the sound was picked up from the band's monitors rather
than the properly mixed sound as heard by the audience.
The sound of the electricity generator can be heard at times
during the quiet moments but over all, it still gives a
good idea of the terrific atmosphere of the evening.
More
photos of other 'Jamstand' acts can be seen on page 4 of
this week's news.
Well
done, Jack!
