Watch: A landing swan sequence
|
|
The
sequence of photos below showing a swan landing on the River
Wye were taken at Backney on Friday afternoon. Nothing unusual
in this but I thought it quite a nice photographic sequence.
Below
the swan: Canada geese gathered in vast quantities on the
Wye at Wilton on Sunday morning. Following a huge gathering
of the geese, which I filmed at Backney two weeks ago (at
least 1000 geese) I wonder if they are getting ready to
migrate. According to my reference book though, many Canada
geese tend to hang around these days. Maybe the gathering
instinct remains, even though many of them no longer migrate
to Greenland, Canada and the Northern United States.
Bottom
photo: the swallows nesting in the White Lion pergola had
a third brood of chicks, which began to fledge on Sunday
morning.

What's Happening in Ross This Week?
|
|
As you may remember, Ross in Bloom were to hold a Potato
Fayre this weekend, but due to the poor weather affecting
the potato crops, this event had to be cancelled. However,
the Potato Printing workshop that was planned as part of
the fayre is still going ahead. So, if you are looking for
something for the kids to do on Saturday, why not take them
along to the Heritage Centre between 11am and 3pm, (but
not in their best clothes, eh?)
If
you like Barbershop music there is concert at Llangarron
Church on Saturday, beginning at 7:30pm.
Tickets for this event cost £8 for Adults and £4 for those
under 18 and can be obtained from Pearl Brewer by telephoning
01989 770324 or on the door, subject to availability.
The entertainment at the Prince
of Wales on Saturday evening will be provided by Sofa,
a fantastic, funky rock band that are great to dance to.
(Definitely Tina Dancing this week!) The band will start
playing at 9pm.
On
Sunday afternoon, the Plough
at Overross are holding a barbecue from 4pm until late.
There will be some great live music on there too. Let's
hope the sun continues to shine.
