Soul for Michelle's 21st Birthday
|
|
Michelle
Jones celebrated her 21st Birthday in style on Sunday by
getting together with Charmaine Danter, Nikki Wood and Sam
Pearce and holding a Garden Party at the Plough
Inn, Overross. The great young soul/funk band,
'Soul For Sale' from Hereford provided the music and food
and drink was enjoyed by the many guests in the new marquee
style area at the Inn, provided for those who smoke.
I
went along for the evening and had a great time in the company
of friends and listening to the band. The talented young
Hereford based musicians are well worth going to see, or
booking if you have an event or party coming up. They play
a range of soul standards as well as their own music. If
you are looking for a band to book, I filmed some of their
performance and one of their own numbers, 'Dog House' can
be watched below.
The
band are: Jared Evans and Sara Hughs - vocals, Lucy Arnold
- Trumpet, Jack Bishop and Will Cook - saxophone, Alex Summers
- drums, Noah Waterfield-Price - keyboards, Josh North -
guitar, Mike Prince - bass and Lawrence Toye - sound tech.

Barbershop
Concert in Llangarron Church
by Rosie Wilson
|
|
An
appreciative audience enjoyed an evening of harmony and
humour given by the Wye Valley Chorus on Saturday. Despite
being depleted through illness, the 12 strong group of dandily
dressed gentlemen, conducted by Paul Mills, performed a
varied repertoire of songs including 'Georgia on my Mind',
'Under the Boardwalk' and 'When I'm 64'. The programme aptly
ended with a moving rendering of Eli Jenkins' prayer: 'Every
Morning when I Wake' from Dylan Thomas's 'Under Milk Wood'.
Whilst
the choir rested their voices, David Handley, an Octogenarian
from Crickhowell, entertained the gathering with assorted
jokes and readings. These included an amusing poem about
country life, entitled 'The Archers', which had been penned
by his late wife, Mary.
During
the interval, refreshments were served in the North Aisle
of the church, enabling people to mingle and chat. Through
fund-raising and grants, it is hoped to convert the North
Aisle into a community venue for everyone in the locality
to use and enjoy. If the Llangarron Village Project proceeds,
concerts in Llangarron church will be one of the many community
events, activities and services taking place in the church.
As
well as having an enjoyable evening, a healthy £465 was
raised to go towards essential church repairs and the running
of St Deinst church.
As
a final note, the event was helped by the provision of a
portaloo in the churchyard. This was purchased by the LCA
earlier this year with a grant from the Ross Area Community
Pride Scheme which is funded by Advantage West Midlands'
Market Town Initiative. Jan Falkiner was there to see the
portaloo in situ and find out more about the Llangarron
Village Project.

Happy
18th Birthday, Mike!
|
|
Happy Birthday to Michael Jones, who celebrated his 18th
birthday on Friday, 21st September. Michael worked out years
ago that his 18th birthday would fall on a Friday and since
then had been planning his birthday **ss up!
However,
after remembering his brother waking up in Hereford Hospital
on his 18th, after a pre birthday drink and the memory
of a recent session with friends still being very vivid,
Mike settled for a nice night out with his girlfriend, Kirsty
and friends, Toby and Laura instead.
We
are glad you had a lovely time, Mike.
Love
Mum and Alan

What's
Happening in Ross This Week?
|
|
Oh
dear. There doesn't seem to be much happening in Ross this
week; unless, of course, you know differently. If you have
any event that you would like as many people as possible
to find out about, send us the details and we will add it,
free of charge to the 'What's On?' page of
Wyenot.com. All you need to do is write a brief summary
of the event, the date, time and venue, then email,
telephone or post the information to us.
The
events that we do have this week are as follows:
Ross
Baptist Church are hosting a coffee morning on Saturday
as part of the Macmillan Big Coffee Mornings. This event
begins at 10am. The people at the Baptist Church are very
friendly, so why not take a break from the shopping and
have a nice cuppa, helping Macmillan at the same time?
The
Blast will be providing this week's entertainment at The
Prince of Wales on Saturday, from 9pm and if you fancy
a late night out Jacqueline's
Night Club is open until 3am.
Have
a good week!
