Local
Jam band 'Totem Pole' repeated their 'Jamstand' performance
of Pink Floyd's ' Dark Side of the Moon' at the Prince of
Wales on Saturday evening. Unlike the Jamstand event, which
unfortunately only got the go-ahead from the local authorities
a week before it took place, Saturday's performance had
been publicized every week on Wyenot News and on the 'What's
On?' page for some time and attracted a much larger than
usual audience, adding to the atmosphere of the evening.
Ben
Johnson (bass) made his premier appearance with the band
during Saturday's event and he performed brilliantly, having
only had a short time to practise with the other members.
Jack Baldus returned from university to play keyboards beautifully.
Tom Lee Hynes was great on lead guitar and vocals - although,
through equipment failure and no fault of Tom's, the vocal
levels were unfortunately overpowered at times by the rest
of the instruments. Tony, from the 'Mighty Pledge' gave
his usual great performance on drums and Crack, whom I had
seen only the evening before playing with the 'Jiveoholics',
gave an absolutely stunning performance on sax.
It
was nice that Tom's brother, Liam Lee Hynes, who played
bass with the band at last summer's Jamstand event was invited
on stage towards the end of the evening, during the Totem
Pole set finale. We wish Liam much success in his new career
as a professional musician, playing bass with Nicole Russo.
I
filmed the whole of Saturday's 'Dark Side' performance and
this can be watched below. Due to the length of the performance,
I have had to make the bit rate lower than I normally would
for broadcast but it is still very watchable, as long as
you keep the viewing size small. (When I tried the usual
resolution, the file size came out at over 100 Mbytes.)
There are also just a couple of small filming errors - shots
of the ceiling. Tina was working, until later on in the
performance and so I was forced to operate the two movie
and two stills cameras alone. The male of the species can
multitask - but personally, I find it difficult when it
comes to four tasks.
Enjoy!
