Ross
Christmas Lights are switched on
|
|
Friday
saw the switching on of Ross town's Christmas lights by
Mayor, Councillor Derek Bedford and despite the awful weather
quite a few people turned up to listen to the local choir
singing carols and Ross Town Band playing some lovely Christmas
songs for the occasion.
This
year a children's ride had been arranged but due to the
dreadful weather, not many children got to take advantage
of it. It was a lovely thought though. Maybe next year the
weather will be kinder.
It
was nice to see Marie and her burger stall there too, as
well as a chocolate fountain at Thornton's Chocolates. Other
shops also got into the festive spirit by staying open late.
Apart
from the awful weather it was an enjoyable event.
Christmas lights are extremely important to a tourist town
like Ross and Herefordshire Council cutting their funding
for Ross town Christmas lights after this year is just another
sign that Ross seems to be the poor relation among the Herefordshire
towns.

News.

Last
Apple Pressing of 2007
|
|
Saturday
morning saw the last apple pressing of 2007 at Broome Farm
and as I had expressed an interest in having a go at this
myself, I took advantage of Phil Long's invitation to go
along and join in.
After
donning some very fetching (protective) attire, I was introduced
to John, who showed me how to go about the apple pressing
business. I enjoyed the work but my arms ached a little
afterwards.
Thank
you John and Phil for giving me the chance to see how it
is done. Hopefully you will let me further my education
next season.

News.

What's
Happening in Ross This Week?
|
|
If
you enjoyed the clip of Open Art Surgery on last week's
edition of WNTV, why not go along to Nature's Choice this
coming Thursday at 7:30pm and enjoy it live? Entrance is
£3 / concessions £2.
Whilst
you are out shopping in Ross on Saturday, pay a visit to
The Maltings. Throughout the day a special collection will
be made, the proceeds of which will go towards Father Christmas
being able to give all of the children of Ross a present,
as he does every year at Ross Christmas Carnival. This year
the festive fun will take place on Saturday, 22nd December.
If
you are a fan of 'Grease', Goodrich Music are staging the
musical at Goodrich Village Hall on Saturday. Tickets cost
£10 from Jolly's and all proceeds will go towards
putting on a free concert featuring the best of local musicians
sometime in the spring. Curtain up is at 7:30pm.
Local
band Dad Rock are also performing on Saturday evening. They
will be playing at The Barrel Inn, Brookend Street from
9pm.
The
entertainment at The Prince of Wales this weekend has yet
to be confirmed. We will keep you posted.
Have
a good week and in the meantime, why not go along to Ross
Heritage Centre and buy some 'Cards for Good Causes?'
See
you next week.

THE
WYENOT NEWS DEADLINE
|
|
The
absolute deadline for Wyenot News stories and other items
is 12:00, midday on Tuesday, for inclusion in the following
day's edition.
PLEASE
NOTE HOWEVER:
This is an absolute deadline and not the time
I am asking for articles to be sent in. Mondays and Tuesdays
here at 'Wyenot News' are Hell with by far, the most events
I cover occurring at the weekend. The photography that the
public sees happening is only one tiny part of the whole
picture (please excuse the pun) of running this weekly news
publication and the bits of prep that people do not see,
are actually the most time consuming part of getting the
story out.
If
at all possible, please send your story in as early as you
can, rather than wait until the very last minute, so that
I can have at least a fighting chance of getting to bed
before 3:00 am every Tuesday and Wednesday morning after
what has lately become two 18 hour working days on the trot.
Thank
you very much for your understanding and help.
Alan
