School
Days - Best of Your Life
|

After
the success of a previous 'School Days' exhibition, Mary
of Ross Heritage Centre is currently running an updated
version with even more interesting old photographs and memorabilia.
There are old school magazines, ex pupils' accounts of their
lives at school and many other interesting items.
One
of the most interesting facts we discovered was that in
1984, the John Kyrle High School Choir, lead by Joyce Backhouse,
entered the BBC Sainsbury's Choir of the Year competition.
260 choirs entered the contest that year, so there was a
fair bit of competition and the school did reach the semi
finals which were televised.
You
can see some of visit to the exhibition in this week's WNTV
News programme.

If
you have been wondering what it looks like behind the flood
alleviation scheme wall at the Millpond Street end of the
works - it looks like this.
On
Monday morning, Councillor Gordon Lucas and I went along
by kind invitation of old friend, Joe Sutton to the offices
and back entrance of J.S. Carpets, where the view is perfect,
and ideal for taking photographs.
In
Issue
184 of 'Wyeot News' and that particular edition of WNTV
News we showed the huge tunnelling machine arriving
at the Homs Road end of the tunnel. This is a view of the
other end.
