Local
People - Meet Roger Lovell
|
|
As
part of our occasional Local People series, we decided to
pick on Roger Lovell this week. Many years ago, Roger, who
lives at Peterstow, moved to Ross-on-Wye to take up a teaching
post at the then Ross Secondary Modern School. After a year
there he decided that teaching wasn't the job for him and
has since worked in a variety of occupations, including
running a green grocery shop in Brookend Street.
Roger
is now happy working in the high tech business of software
testing and analysis a world which seems far removed from
the peaceful, picturesque place in which he lives. He likes
nothing better than to work on the beautiful home he shares
with his wife, Monica and his now, nearly all grown up children.
The
house used to belong to Roger's father-in-law,, Ken Johnson,
who now lives virtually next door at Broome Farm, as do
Ken's daughter, Hilary, at the Broome
Farm B & B and son, Mike who runs the Ross
Cider and Perry Company.
Roger
has a great love of all kinds of music and his children
seem to follow him. His eldest daughter, Clementine is training
as an opera singer and son, Toby plays brilliant blues harp
and they regularly entertain at Broome Farm events.
Roger
is also a very keen gardener and when we caught up with
him to do our interview, he was busy planting his 300th
tree. You can see our interview with Roger in this week's
WNTV News
programme.
Roger
is the son of Sir Bernard Lovell, who was the founder of
Jodrell Bank. We didn't include this in the interview as
we wanted to interview Roger about himself. However, below
is a photograph of Roger as a boy, taken from a recent Sky
at Night programme which was about Sir Bernard and Jodrell
Bank, both of which Roger is very proud.

A
Great Evening in the Cider Cellar
|
|
On
Friday evening we went along to the cider cellar at Broome
Farm to meet with some of the many friends we have made
there to enjoy friendship, food and music, (not to mention
the cider!) We invited Bekki and Shaun to go along with
us and join in the fun.
John
Edwards and friend Clyde started the musical side of the
proceedings off and then invited Bekki and Shaun to perform
a couple of songs. They were a little nervous at first,
but everybody enjoyed their music.
Jim
Neale turned up later with daughter, Becky and Tom and encouraged
Shaun to join in with his guitar.
We
had a brilliant evening and would like to thank Phil, Mike
and Sophie for inviting us. It was great to see everybody
again. You can see some of Friday evening in this week's
WNTV News
programme.

Will Killeen at the Prince
|
|
As is always the case with legendary blues guitarist, Will
Killeen, his performance at the Prince
of Wales on Saturday evening was brilliant. Tina
and I went along for the whole evening, spending time with
friends who met us there.
During
the break, Tina spoke to Will for WNTV
NEWS and he kindly performed Tina's favourite,
'Duelling Banjos' for this week's programme. It can be seen
at the end of the programme.
Nice
to see you again Will and we look forward to next time,
which I believe will be at the Red
Lion, Peterstow.

Well
Done Sharon and Graham
|
|
Sharon and Graham Element of Audrey's Fish Bar should feel
very proud of themselves. Every year the cheerful Tudorville
Chippy duo raise money for the Royal National Seamens' Mission
and this year, after the proceeds of an Easter draw for
a huge Easter egg and a monster chocolate Easter bunny along
with the charity box contents had been counted, around £420
was raised for the charity. Well done to both of you.
