Window
Dressing for Homestart
|
|
Herefordshire
Homestart recently held a window dressing competition to
raise awareness of who they are and what they do. Ten shops
in Ross took part in the competition, dressing their windows
using homestart colours, incorporating posters and information
about the charity in a bid to recruit more volunteers to
help with the work they do to support local families.
The
competition was organized by Jo Grafton, Volunteer Recruitment
Officer who was really pleased with the interest shown both
in the contest and in the charity.
Mrs.
Joyce Thomas, MBE-DL was delighted to be asked to judge
the competition, despite the fact that she had only landed
from the USA the previous evening. Mrs Thomas and the other
judges finally decided that the new lingerie shop in town,
Lucy Gray's had the best display and proprietor Janet Worrall
was both surprised and very pleased to hear that her display
was chosen as the winning entry. David Williams, Chairman
of Herefordshire Homestart and Mrs. Thomas then presented
Janet with a lovely hamper for her efforts.
Janet
informed those present that many people had commented on
the display and that three people had picked up information
on how to become a Homestart volunteer. You can see more
of the presentation and learn about the invaluable work
that Herefordshire Homestart do in this week's WNTV
NEWS programme.

Deputy
Leader of Liberal Democrats Visits Ross
|
|
After
watching the Ross Ramblers set off on their Walk for Health
on Saturday afternoon, Ross Town Mayor, Councillor Derek
Bedford informed us that he had another engagement at Ross
Market House, if we would like to go along and take a photograph.
When
we arrived we were greeted by Paul Keetch, MP, Sarah Carr,
Parliamentary candidate for the Liberal Democrats and Deputy
Leader of the party, Vince Cable. Until our arrival, we
were unaware of this visit and were unprepared for an in
depth interview. However, we spoke briefly to Mr. Keetch
and Sarah about her first year as candidate, before having
a brief chat with Mr. Cable.
Had
we known about the event beforehand, we could have conducted
a far better interview. However, you can see more in this
week's WNTV
NEWS programme.

Come
to the (Fridge Door) Cabaret Old Chum. . .
|
|
Fridge Door Cabaret is a series of monthly, acoustic open
mic nights
which are organized by local entertainer, Sol..
Previously
known as Open Art Surgeries, these sessions are great if
you want to go along and share your talents, whether you
play or sing, tell stories or read poetry, with like minded
people, and are very entertaining if you just want to go
along to watch and listen.
The
first of these Fridge Door Cabarets is to take place on
Thursday, 24th April at the White
Lion Inn, Wilton and will begin at 8pm. If you want
to perform, it is advisable to arrive early to book a slot.
Admission is free.
This
particular session will be dedicated to the memory of Alan
Lyus, who died suddenly on Saturday, 29th March. Alan and
his wife Chris used to host Sol's open mic nights at the
Nature's Choice Cafe in Broad Street. Alan was a lovely
man. No matter how busy he was, if we called in to see him
or Chris, he always emerged from the kitchen to come and
have a word. Alan always enjoyed the sessions and found
Sol's new name for them very amusing.
If
you would like to join in the fun, go along to the White
Lion on Thursday, 24th April.

Do
Mr. A and I Gurney read Wyenot News?
Alan
We
recently received a postcard address to our house but a
name that neither us nor the neighbours know, and there
has only been one previous owner of our house. We also had
a Christmas card for them.
The
addressees are Mr A&I Gurney at Blake Avenue Ross-on-Wye
and both cards were from 'Dad and Sheila'. So if 'Dad and
Sheila' are wondering why they had no response from their
cards to A&I Gurney it's because the address is wrong.
If
they want to contact me I can let them have the postcard.

Dad
and Sheila are having a great time in Spain, by the way.
