WNTV
is currently in the process of producing a tourism film
which will be available to view on the tourism pages of
Wyenot.com. As the weather was so nice on Saturday we decided
to go to Symonds Yat to take some more footage.
After
a great lunch at Rose
Cottage, we met up with James of Wyedean
Canoe and Adventure Centre, who told us how their season
was going so far. Whilst we were there we took a river trip
on one of the Kingfisher
Cruisers, taking in the beautiful scenery while Tony
Gardiner gave a fascinating commentary on local history.
You can see some of the footage we took in this week's WNTV
News programme.

Friday
was a night to remember for those who were lucky enough
to witness the second ROscar awards. The ROscars were inaugurated
last year as a joint event between Ross Rotary Club and
The Phoenix Theatre and are awarded to A Level drama students
from John Kyrle High School.
Unfortunately,
due to licensing restrictions for school productions, only
pupils, staff and family members are allowed in as audience
for the performances. With six performances by six very
talented groups, the task of judging was an extremely difficult
one. Eventually the decisions were made and the awards were
as follows.
The
Ross Rotary trophy was awarded to the group that adapted
4:48am Psychosis by Sarah Kane. 4:48am Psychosis is a terrifically
demanding play for a professional actors and this adaptation
was indeed worthy of the professional stage. The group consisted
of Rachael Mace, Ally Mason, Harvey Powell, Katy Smith and
Henry Thorne.
The
next awards were the individual trophies given by The Phoenix
Theatre. The award for best actor went to Alex Naylor for
his rendition of the unhinged professor in Eugene Ionesco's
play The Lesson. Best actress was awarded to Katy Trevethan
for her performance of Helena in the A2 version of A Midsummer
Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. Harvey Powell deservedly
took the prize for best technician. Not only did Harvey
justify the award this year but I think John Kyrle High
School, The Phoenix and all the other theatres and stages
around the county owe Harvey a big thank you for all the
time he has given over the last few years. Best of luck
in at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
