was drawn to the attention of the Ross Lions that the Ross-on-Wye
1002 Squadron Air Cadets had not been able to use their
banner on parades because of its poor condition. It had
become worn out and a new one was desperately needed. Amongst
other businesses and local organizations they approached
the Ross Lions Club with a plea for financial assistance
to purchase the new flag.
Lions have helped the Air Cadets quite a few times in the
past, along with other organizations who provide young people
with activities to keep them occupied, interested, gaining
valuable experience and confidence. They, therefore, had
no hesitation in deciding to give a donation of £150
towards the new flag.
The Ross Lions President, Keith Wilding and the Public Relations
Officer, Bernard Fowkes, visited the Air Cadets at their
premises in Alton Street and the cheque was presented to
Flt Lt Marsh. On accepting the cheque Flt Lt Marsh said
how grateful they were for the donation which would help
tremendously. They were now hoping that other benefactors
would now come along and help with raising the required
total of over £600 which a new flag would cost. Anyone wishing
to help should either visit the Squadrons Headquarters in
Alton Street on Monday or Friday evenings or contact Mrs
J Bennett on 07920083010.
