Rant - Road Closures
when a road is closed the Highways Maintenance normally
put a piece in the local news or put a sign up to warn people
'avoid this road it's closed', but on Wednesday night Alton
Road was closed, due to the road being resurfaced.
it probably needed doing, but it was very badly organized.
I was travelling back from a Youth Council Meeting, and
the traffic going out of Cantilupe road was monumental,
so I advised the taxi driver, 'It may be easier to turn
left and go along Alton Street to save time'. We got there
and, to our amazement we had to turn around at the Ashburton
and head back to the traffic which had built up in the town
centre. In total, it took me 55 minutes to get back to Ross
from Hereford when normally it only takes me 25 minutes!
Henry Street and the Ashburton Estate are closed, this begs
the question, 'Why do the road works always seem to take
place close to the Easter Holidays, when people are coming
into to Ross and going away from Ross?'
they may need to do the work, but why at a busy time of
Barlow, Chair of RYF and HYC.
a guess, Ricky: I would suggest that the reason most
of the work 'needs' doing on the roads, and in particular,
at this time of year is to make sure that every single penny
of last year's budget is used up, thus ensuring that a larger
amount can be budgeted for in the year to come. If the money
was not spent, they may have to consider reducing our taxes
and that would never do. Not that I'm a cynic or anything.
