Wilton Castle had for some time been a bit of a mystery.
Not only to visitors to the town, but locals too. For this
ancient monument used to stand quietly alone on the banks
of River Wye, evoking people's curiosity as to what it's
purpose used to be, who lived there and how could they get
a closer look. Now, thanks to Sue and Alan Parsloe, who
bought the castle five years ago, and English Heritage,
the public are welcome on selected days to learn all about
the castle, it's history and the tremendous amount of hard
work that has gone into restoring parts of Wilton Castle,
making it a safe place for visitors to enjoy.
the main restoration was completed last year, Sue and Alan
have held several open days and are opening the castle gates
to the public every Wednesday, all bank holiday Mondays
and selected Sundays until the end of August. We went along
to Wilton Castle on Easter Monday to talk to Sue about how
their open day was going.
