Ross-on-Wye RFC have celebrated yet another successful season this year at their Annual Awards Dinner and Dance at the Chase Hotel last Saturday. The 2008 / 2009 season not only saw the club promoted to Gloucester Premier Division for 2009 / 2010, but also successfully defending the North Midlands RFU Vase, defeating Evesham in the Final.

More than 110 Guests attended the Awards Dinner, where Officials took the opportunity to celebrate another great season, rewarding those individuals who had delivered exceptional commitment and dedication to the club. After a great meal, Club Chairman, Martyn Pocknell thanked Sponsors and volunteers alike for their support during the season, after which Mr. Brian Harris presented awards to the following winners:

The Steve Gibbons Coaches Award went to Huw Bellamy and the award for the Most Promising Young Player was presented to Josh Morgan. Adam Clements received the award for the Most Improved player and the Best Newcomer title went to James Hughes.

Top Try Scorer of the 1st team was Alistair Hunter–Blair with the second team awards going to Pete Smith.
Top Points Scorer awards went to Chay Brine of the 1st team and Chris Gage of Ross 2nds.
The President's Award 1st team was presented to Adam Clements and Chris Price received the award for the 2nd team.
The Players' Player awards went to Ali Hunter-Blair of the 1st team and 2nd team player, Chris Price.
The club rewarded Chris Gage, Dave Mince and Mike Davies with lifetime achievement awards for their long standing and ongoing commitment to the club.

In an effort to pay tribute to Coach Paul Haley, Gareth Holdsworth made a whip round of the guests and made a 'moving' speech before presenting this man who does so much for the teams with the large sum he had collected. As the speech contained highly emotive language we cannot quote it here, but we can assure you it did bring tears to the eyes of many.

The revelry at the Chase continued well into the early hours, with dancers and non dancers alike gracing the dance floor with a mesmerizing array of movements, some voluntary, most involuntary to the music of DJ Kinger.

A great night was had by all and the officials at the club would like to thank all those who have given their time, money and effort during a great season.
