ARRIVING AT THE 2009 LEAVERS' PROM

Almost 200 students and staff met at The Chase Hotel on Friday evening for the annual John Kyrle Year 11 Leavers' Prom. It has become traditional over the years for students to arrive in novel ways and this year was no exception. Amongst the limousines were an American Army Jeep; a horse and carriage; a tractor; an articulated lorry, some Mercedes and BMWs and, for the first time ever, a number of students arrived on Space-Hoppers.

A large crowd of parents, friends and teachers watched the procession before students and invited guests began a very enjoyable evening. Following a 3-course meal, Headteacher, Nigel Griffiths congratulated Year 11 on their contributions to John Kyrle since they began in 2004. He noted their academic progress, successful participation in Sport, the Arts, fund-raising and especially the care they had shown for each other and the family of Jade South following her tragic loss in the Autumn.

Gwyneth Gill, Head of Year 11, echoed Mr. Griffiths' comments on how fantastic the students looked. She thanked the tutors and all staff at school who had supported the year group since 2004. Students Abi Ward and Rory Trevethin thanked the school on behalf of Year 11 and paid their tribute to Jade. They then presented Little Miss and Little Mister Awards. These began with Little Mister and Miss most likely to be millionaires. Others included Little Mr. and Miss Sporty, Teachers' Pets, Happy, Grumpy, Quiet, Popular, Loud, Cool, Confident, Clever, Arty and stupidest Laughs.

The evening ended with official photographs and then the Pink Panther disco beginning with, of course.......'School's Out'!
