Her
Royal Highness, Princess Anne visited Herefordshire on Tuesday
and one the Princess Royal's visits included a tour of The
Ryefield Centre in Ross-on-Wye. The Royal visitor was accompanied
by the Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Lady Darnley and
they were greeted by Ross Town Mayor, Councillor John Edwards,
Mayoress Sue Edwards and many other dignitaries. Upon arrival,
Princess Anne was presented with posies by Elle Ferguson
and one of the children from the Children's Centre at Ryefield.
Princess
Anne's tour included visiting Jumpstart, the post natal
and baby clinic, the Deaf Direct support group, where she
spent several minutes talking to the members, and the textiles
department where adults with learning disabilities recycle
textiles, a fine example of which was a bag made from a
pair of jeans. This beautiful bag was presented to the Princess
by it's creator Suzanne Andrews, who was very excited by
the whole event.
The
Princess Royal then visited the Children's Centre where
the youngsters had been busy making crowns and tiaras which
would have made any Princess look even more beautiful! On
her way to the Main Hall, Princess Anne stopped to admire
the handiwork of the gardeners club, who in conjunction
with the children's centre produced fresh vegetables as
part of the promotion of healthy eating.
The
Main Hall was furnished with many displays and information
stands about the many services that can be accessed via
the Ryefield Centre, including the National Childbirth Trust,
the CAB, The New Life Church and many more. There were delicious
refreshments laid on and the whole event went very smoothly,
with Princess Anne taking the time to speak at length to
all involved.
Upon
being cheered and waved off from her visit the Princess
later paid a visit to local stables in Sellack. It was a
pleasure to cover this event and the Princess Royal made
it very clear that she was impressed with the Ryefield Centre
and the way it is run.
