The
choir of Corpus Christi College Oxford, having previously
toured Rome, Canada and Japan, will be coming to Ross on
Wye next week. Ex-John Kyrle High School student, Duncan
Alston, sings in the choir, and has encouraged the group
to come on tour to Ross.
The
choir, renowned as 'One of the best non-auditioning choirs
in Oxford', plays an integral part in college life, singing
evensong every Sunday during term time. Their tour gives
them a chance to perform some of their most popular pieces
from the last year, including Handel's Halleluia Chorus,
Mozart's Laudate Dominum, Lauridsen's O Nata Lux and some
music by Rutter. The
choir is run by student organ scholars Ben Woodgates and
Dorothea Harris.
When
not enjoying the splendours of the Wye Valley, the choir
will be singing Evensong at St Mary's Church, Ross, on Thursday,
2nd July at 5pm, and will be holding a concert, joint with
Mark Sanderson's Voice Squad (Ross' very own youth choir),
on 3rd July at 7.30pm in Walford Parish Church. Tickets
for the concert are £10, £5 for concessions and children
are free. Tickets include wine and nibbles and can be purchased
either on the door or in advance from Wendy Alston (01989
562 959) or Sanna Drummond(01989-765-315). Early booking
is advised as the Church has limited seating.
