the Country Festival was taking place at one end of the
riverbank on Sunday, at the other end, Cinderford Brass
Band performed the sixth in the series of summer 'Bands
in the Park' concerts, provided by Ross Town Council. Unfortunately,
this is the first of this year's concerts I have been able
to get to but I will try to get to more over the coming
a large audience, spread around all four sides of the bandstand
enjoyed the concert, on what turned out to be a sunny afternoon.
As I left for home, one member of the audience, who had
seen me filming asked if the video would be appearing on
Wyenot News. Your question is answered below.
piece chosen to show was recommended by a friend of mine
from a previous work existence, Simon Whitson - who happened
to be playing tuba with the band. It was great to see you
again Simon after all these years! Simon recommended that
I film 'Basin Street Blues', which was both arranged and
performed by principal trombonist, Mike Innes. Great choice!
I tried to tell you about my brother, John Wood's band on
Sunday but could not remember at the time which band he
is currently with. Coincidentally, I saw him an hour later
as he happened to be passing Ross and called by. He plays
for Leyland Band and also conducts Lostock Hall. He is known
by many local bandsmen as, when he lived locally, he used
to play for Flowers, amongst others.
