The
Heart of England in Bloom judges received a very warm welcome
to Ross-on-Wye on Monday from Ross Town Councillors, the
Mayor and Mayoress, John and Sue Edwards and, of course,
the hard working Ross-in-Bloom committee. The Ross-in-Bloom
committee had asked for volunteers from Ross to litter pick
and tidy up the town and on the Sunday prior to the visit,
Upton Bishop WI came to town and spent the morning sweeping
and generally scrubbing the Market House and Apron ready
for the judges.
Judges,
Les Goodman and David Wassell were shown around various
parts of the town, starting their tour in High Street and
visiting Ross Heritage Centre, the secret garden at the
back of the King Charles II pub, Red Meadow, Nursery Road,
The Ryefield Centre, Ross Pre-school Playgroup, Ross
Garden Store (who were major sponsors of this year's
Ross-in-Bloom campaign), Crossfields and the Garden of Remembrance.
The
judges, speaking over tea at the Royal Hotel, seemed to
be very impressed during their visit, but weren't giving
anything away. We shall just have to wait and see, but I
think that the Ross-in-Bloom team and the members of the
community who got involved did Ross-on-Wye proud. Fingers
crossed!
