Castle took its many visitors a step back in time over the
Bank Holiday weekend as knights of old did battle and medieval
musicians entertained, whilst archers gave the young knights
of today the opportunity to learn a few long bow skills.
It was a great day out for the whole family, with parents
getting as excited as their children, joining in the many
activities that were available.
The
Ledbury Waytes gave a great performance of medieval music
on their wonderful, authentic instruments and many people
joined in the medieval dance class. After much exploration
of the castle, colouring in and firing arrows from the long
bow, it was time to watch the brilliantly staged tournament
re-enactment, courtesy of the very entertaining Plantagenet
Society, who had everybody cheering on their favourite knights
and laughing at some of the great comedy incorporated into
the show.
After
the tournaments, visitors were invited to talk to the brave
knights and take a closer look at some of the armour and
fearsome weaponry used. A few of the braver visitors even
tried on a helm and were given a first hand experience of
just how well their heads were protected during medieval
battle.
