A
ball and auction in aid of Help for Heroes took place on
Saturday, 17th October at The Chase Hotel and over 220 guests
arrived at the event, dressed in gowns and suits, looking
beautiful. The
event was held in memory of four wonderful soldiers, Rifleman
Jamie Gunn, Corporal Daniel Nield, Lance Corporal Steven
Sherwood, and Lance Corporal Paul Upton.
Music
from local band SwiTch, whose members include Simon Smith,
Steve French and Sam Wheale soon had all of the guests on
the dance floor.
One
of the event organizers, Charlotte Reynolds said, Switch
are a truly great local band! Auctioneer
Tarquin Shaw-Young did a brilliant job keeping the crowd
under control during the auction, as by this time most people
were rather drunk!'
'The
auction pulled in some amazing bids, one of these was by
Andrew Gooding and Maria Oates from The King Charles public
house, who bid £700 on a brass artillery cartridge which
was used in Afghanistan in 2007 and I understand they are
getting the item engraved in memory of Steven Sherwood'.
The
evening raised just under £6000! Add that to our total already
and we have raised £11,500!'
'Jess
Teague, Jemma Heath and Jessica Sherwood and I would like
to say thank you to a few people for making this event as
special as it was. The Ross Gazette and The Monmouthshire
Beacon for sponsoring the event, Switch for playing 2 amazing
sets, Tarquin Shaw-Young, rdpphotography for capturing some
amazing pictures, The Chase Hotel especially Jan Howard,
DJ Tim Trott, Multiprint, Likes Florist, and to all the
people and businesses who donated items to the raffle and
auction! Also a big thank you to everyone who helped out
on the night! Look out for the next one!'
