In a letter which was distributed to residents in the vicinity of the Chase Hotel, Inspector Jim McLaughlin said, 'Ross-on-Wye remains one of the safest places in the county in which to live and work and I am committed to ensuring it remains that way.' The letter was written in the wake of a protest which took place outside the hotel on Saturday evening, where, in the interest of public safety a large body of Police officers were monitoring the situation. Inspector McLaughlin wrote the letter to explain to residents that the steps the police took were to ensure that any impact on them was kept to a minimum.

In excess of 70 people gathered outside the hotel in protest at the fact that not only was leader of the BNP, Nick Griffin in residence, a fund raising dinner in aid of the party was being held there. The protest went ahead peacefully, with just one arrest being made for a public order offence.

We went along to Ross Police Station to talk to Inspector McLaughlin about Saturday's event for WNTV which can be watched by clicking the play button below.

Whilst we were at the Station, the Inspector told us of a community policing event which will be taking place in The Maltings on Wednesday, 4th November. Your Local Policing Team and the partnerships that work with them will be introducing themselves and informing you of who they are, what their role is and how you can contact them. The event will begin at 10am.
