did nothing to deter the large crowd gathered in the grounds
of the Chase Hotel on Saturday to enjoy this year's Ross
Lions' Bonfire and Firework Display. Lions and visitors
alike were hoping for better weather after last year's very
wet display and this wish was granted, but only marginally.
There was less wind and so the rain fell vertically, making
umbrellas more effective. Nonetheless, the Lions put on
a great display and hopefully raised money. Money raised
by the annual event helps many local people, supports local
events and through Lions International, helps those more
distant in need of financial support such as earth quake
and tsunami victims.
the rain was falling quite heavily, rather than film from
close to the bonfire, like last year, I took the van inside
the grounds again to protect the cameras. I still had some
trouble keeping the rain from the lenses but did manage
to film the event. I have compressed highlights from the
display into 2 minutes 47 seconds and set it to a song,
'Sign of the Times' by local musician, Paul Randell. The
video is split screen. On the left is a fast, wide angle
view of the whole display and on the right, a closer view
of the fireworks. We hope you enjoy watching and that clear
skies may return for next year.
