The historic stone wall at the Prospect in Ross, which collapsed two years ago, has now been completely rebuilt, using a mixture of the remaining stone and new stone sourced from a local quarry. Following its rebuild by Amey and sub-contractors I. J. Preece and Son Ltd, based in Hereford, the wall has now been officially handed over to Herefordshire Council.

At the official hand-over, which took place on Friday morning, Councillor John Stone, chairman of Herefordshire Council, said: 'This project has been a huge success and the contractors have done a splendid job. This area now offers a splendid view and Prospect is a very fitting word for it.'

During works on the wall, archaeologists discovered stone foundations that date from Roman times along with part of the medieval Bishop's Palace. The rebuilt wall has been designed to ensure these remains are preserved until such time as the huge funding necessary to put them on public display safely can be obtained.
