Firstly:
I apologize if this article is not well translated. It arrived
here at 'Wyenot News' in German, as the author, my friend
Marc Rosenkranz is busy at the moment and did not have time
to translate it for us, so I had an attempt. Languages
are not really my forte (Although I am beginning to pick
up the odd bit of Klingon from watching Star Trek Voyager).
In case I have made a complete pig's ear, the original
Deutsch article can be read below the photos.
The
mayor of Ross-on-Wye's German Twin Town, Betzdorf, Mayor
Bernd Brato welcomed 23 students from John Kyrle High School
and their German counterparts to the Betzdorfer City Hall
on Wednesday, 17th February for the 'Schüleraustausch'.
The English friends were visiting Betzdorf during the half-term
holiday to learn about the town and its surroundings. After
the 'Karnevalsfeiern', some students also 'particularly
dared themselves' to visit Cologne.
During their time at the Betzdorfer City Hall, Mayor Bernd
Brato gave them an overview of the historical development
of Betzdorf and described some of the City's future projects,
such as the building of swimming pools on the Molzberg and
Circle Homeland Day ceremonies, due to take place in 2011.
Mrs. Kitchiner, who has spent 30 years in England acted
as mayor Brato's interpreter and described, among other
things, the unusual winter we have been experiencing here
in Ross.
Old acquaintance, Dr. Gerhard Hermann was also welcomed
by the guests from Ross at the Betzdorfer City Hall. Dr.
Hermann was pleased at how the number of participants in
the school exchange had increased over the years.
At the
conclusion of the visit to Betzdorf, the group were presented
with a Betzdorf cup before the mandatory group photo on
the City Hall steps.
