The
Larruperz Centre first opened it's doors in June 1990, providing
the people of Ross-on-Wye with a wonderful, versatile Community
Centre. To celebrate the centre's 20th birthday, various
events have been held which on Sunday, culminated in a Treasure
Hunt, devised by Jane Hewson, and a celebratory tea party.
The
treasure hunt began at 2:20pm when teams had to walk round
and about the town, finding and solving their clues before
returning to the Larruperz Centre to enjoy some delicious
tea and cake. The tea was attended by some specially invited
guests but was open to all who had anything to do with the
Larruperz Centre during the past 20 years. The celebratory
cake was made by Sue Kirby who, along with Shirley Davies
is the last of the original general committee. They are
both now Directors.
During
the 1920s, a group of young men enjoyed a full social life
and put this to good use to help members of the community.
They organized many dances and celebrations, supported the
carnival and gave boots to poor children. It was this community
spirit that led to the decision to build a community centre
for the people of Ross-on-Wye.
