police are investigating a robbery which took place at the
Ross-on-Wye Swimming Pool in Kyrle Street this morning.
At around 9.20 am, a lorry, which was delivering vending
machine items to the centre was targeted and a large amount
of food and tobacco was stolen. The driver of the lorry
was not threatened in any way and was unharmed.
offenders loaded the items into a white car-derived van
and made off from the scene at speed. A police pursuit ensued
onto the M50 and then the M5, leaving the motorway near
Droitwich. After two police vehicles were damaged by the
van as they attempted to stop it, officers lost the vehicle
at the Avoncroft Museum on the outskirts of Bromsgrove after
it drove through a number of locked gates. It
is believed one of the men may have made off from the van
at this point.
Sergeant Tim Powell of Hereford CID said: 'We are still
in the very early stages of this investigation and are still
gathering evidence, in particular CCTV which we are reviewing.
If anyone saw this vehicle or anyone acting suspiciously
in the car park of the Ross-on-Wye Swimming Pool in the
lead up to the robbery we would like to hear from them.
Also, if anyone has seen any suspicious activity in the
Stoke Heath area around the Avoncroft Museum where the van
was last seen, we would like to hear from them.'
