RUGBY - LONGLEVENS 2ND XV 22, ROSS 2ND XV 42

In preparation for an away league game next week at Redditch, Ross travelled to Longlevens for a friendly fixture last Saturday. With the perfect blend of youth and experience, Ross put in a stellar performance to come away clear 42-22 victors.

It was Longlevens who started the brighter. With their wing and full back looking to run back any poor kicks, they looked dangerous from the off. Ross compounded this with some early poor tackling and after 15 minutes they were 10-0 down after a penalty and a well worked try from the wing. With a young side it would have been easy to let this game slip away. However Ross quickly tightened up their defence led ably by their Captain, Paul Hayward and as a consequence, mistakes started to appear in the home team's game.

Firstly, a Craig Powell penalty put Ross on the board, then after a crunching tackle in midfield by Casey Morgan saw the ball go loose, it was flanker, Tom Harris who reacted quickest and scooped the ball up before scoring under the posts. Craig Powell converted and Ross were level after half an hour.

From this point on Ross tightened their grip on the game. At scrum time the Ross front row of Tim Morgan, Chris Price and Matt Redman were dominant. In the line out Jake Christopher not only secured his ball but began to steal the opposition's and in defence, Sam Griffiths, Ali Rees and Paul Hayward were magnificent.

All this hard work paid dividends as Ross added tries from Ali Rees, Jake Christopher and Chris Price either side of half time. Longlevens did hit back to add two scores of their own but further tries from Sam Griffiths and Casey Morgan saw Ross comfortable winners by 42-22.

The Terrys Digital man of the match was Nick Stephens for his commitment and hard work.

Both Ross sides are in league action next Saturday, 23rd October. Ross 1st XV will play at home against Whitehall, whilst Ross 2nd XV are away to Redditch. Kick off for both matches is at 3pm.
