RIVER WYE FREEZES ACROSS IN ROSS-ON-WYE.........

The River Wye froze bank to bank in Ross for the first time in 47 years on Sunday and not wishing to miss the opportunity to take photos, I walked along the bank from Wilton to take some photos and to film this extremely rare phenomenon. In the field as I walked with my friend, Kevin Sale, the temperature was 10 degrees below zero and we trudged through 6 inches of powder snow.

Later in the day, the temperature began to rise and the thaw began. The following morning, one of the strangest river phenomena that I have seen occurred. By the island at Wilton, a circle of frozen water caused a 'hole' to form in the river, with water flowing around it. All of this can be watched fully in this week's 'Week in Moving Pictures' film above (after the Christmas Day lunch for the elderly).
